AmeriCorps*VISTA is a program of the Corporation for National Service with a focus on alleviating poverty. Through their Federal Entrepreurship Initiative, SNEDA received a grant to attract business savvy individuals to fill various positions that help SNEDA's mission to create and retain jobs in Spokane, Washington.
For the duration of the one year term, our AmeriCorps volunteers may assist SNEDA in a variety of positions (see positions), ranging from providing small business consulting to running our operating systems.

What is the Corporation for National Service?
The Corporation for National Service (CNS) is the primary vehicle through which the federal government encourages Americans of all ages and backgrounds to engage in community-based service. The Corporation's initiatives address the nation's educational, public safety, environmental, and other human needs to achieve direct and demonstrable results.
What is the Federal Entrepreneur Initiative?
The Entrepreneur Initiative is the Corporation's newest initiative focused on "getting things done" within communities throughout the country. Americorps*VISTA members are selected to support the use of business and financial strategies to fight poverty. The development of community, organizational and individual financial assets are important strategies to move people out of poverty.
What type of Program activities does the Federal Entrepreneur Initiative support?
The Initiative supports three types of program activities throughout the nation.
- Building individual assets, such as individual development accounts, micro-enterprise development, entrepreneur education, financial literacy, and home ownership.
- Building organizational assets, such as helping nonprofit organizations achieve long term financial security through purchase of real estate, developing diversified income streams and creating efficiencies through the application of technology, and
- Building community assets, such as developing new credit unions, establishing cooperatives and creating business opportunities.
